Speckled-Toshe
Speckled-Toshe is an independent publishing platform dedicated to artist records and sound-based editions at the intersection of contemporary art, experimental music and publishing.
Rather than treating the record primarily as a musical release, each edition is conceived as an editorial work in which recorded sound, printed matter and graphic design form interdependent parts of a single whole.
Developed in close dialogue with artists, composers, writers, curators and designers, the publications explore the record as a space for artistic research, listening and editorial practice.
Editorial Principles
Publishing is approached as an artistic practice.
Each project is developed from its own specific context rather than following a predefined format. Sound, visual language, graphic design and material production are considered together from the outset, allowing the publication to emerge as a coherent whole rather than as a carrier for recorded music alone.
The catalogue deliberately moves across disciplinary boundaries, bringing together practices from contemporary art, composition, sound art, performance, writing and media art.
Series and Collaborations
Alongside independent artist editions, Speckled-Toshe develops long-term editorial collaborations with ensembles, artists, curators and cultural institutions.
The ongoing Contrechamps | Speckled-Toshe series, realised together with Ensemble Contrechamps, explores encounters between contemporary composition, artistic publishing and visual culture through specially conceived vinyl editions.
Further collaborations arise from exhibitions, research projects, artist-run initiatives and cultural institutions, each shaped by the specific context of the publication.
